Soap Trailer (1st Draft)

When we begun filming our soap opera trailer, as a group we started to face some problems due to organisation within the group, which included getting group members together at the right time, and the appropriate times, as well as getting characters together at the correct times. We also had some issues with one of the stories within our soap trailer, as a character within the soap could no longer complete the part, which included transport he owned, therefore we had to change the idea of the story. So because of the bad organisation of the group as a whole, we fell behind slightly, however we managed to complete our trailer to a good standard. When we completed our first draft, the other members within the Media Studies group gave us feedback on what we could change to make our trailer look better. Some of the feedback included the following...

  • Footage to be cut down or shortened: Originally, for our first scene especially  we needed to do some major editing, which would either be to shorten the shot, or cut some of the shot. The issue with the shot was that one of the characters was walking for far to long, but with a trailer, shots need to be fast pace, therefore we needed to cut the shot make the scene quicker and to link with the next section of the trailer.
  • Titles relating to stories: The group also suggested to add titles in between the different stories that were addressed within our soap trailer. Within our trailer we had three main stories, which the characters would be facing different issues. The group suggested that we put these titles in between each of the issues within the soap trailer to make the audience more aware of what is happening.
  • Adding Location/Characters: When we played back our first draft to the group, we made it clear that the trailer was not complete as we still wanted to add extra scene into trailer, however our subject teacher thought that we had a lot of footage that we could use already. Altough we had footage, we wanted to add an extra location, such as a pub, as we still needed a communal area for our soap. Someone also suggested that we added another character to the soap trailer, preferable a women as we already had enough male characters within our trailer.
  • Voice Over/Rhetorical question: All soap trailers have a voice over towards the end of the trailer to get the audience thinking about what is in store within the future of the soap opera. Although we did not have a voice over within our first draft of our soap trailer, we had plans on finishing the trailer off with a rhetorical question to keep the audience thinking about what is in store. We have already added  titles in between our stories in the soap, telling the audience the issues raised, so we were thinking about ending our trailer on a voice-over saying "How would you go about solving your issues?"
