Magazine Front Cover Design

Banner (Competition Prize):
For my banner on the TV magazine, I have decided to use a competition prize to try and attract people to my magazine. The reason why I have decided to use a competition prize as a free holiday away is because I feel that readers will really be up for a holiday. For my banner I have also used bright colours, which are the bright yellow and oranges. I feel that these types of colours will catch the reader’s eye noticing the competition prize, therefore buying the magazine.
Masthead (TV News):
For the masthead of my magazine, I have used the title name of my magazine. I feel that the red background combined with the white font makes the name of the magazine stand out; therefore people will notice the magazine. It is important to have a well notice and clear magazine title because there many other magazines that is similar to this one, which you may have competition, so you should make sure that you use the appropriate colours to make sure that your magazine stands out.

Dominant Image (Character-Murder?):

For the dominant image I decided that I was going to use a male character that will play the most important part in the program for that particular week. Also underneath the image I have also added a strapline, which reads “Murder? Has Ben gone too far?” The reason why added a strapline to the image is because it tells the audience exactly what is going on within the program for that particular week. Giving this small piece of information away allows the audience to have some inside knowledge about the soap.

Coverlines (Other images):
Along the bottom of the magazine, I have also added other information about other programs in that particular week. The reason why I have added more Coverlines to the front page of the magazine is because the reader’s may not be interested in the main program being shown that week, therefore there other programs along the bottom that they may have an interest in.
Lure (Taken-Film of the Week):
For the lure I have used an image of the film Taken that we created. The reason why I have added a film to the front cover of the magazine is because people may be interested in the film that made it for the film of the week.

TV Magazine Annotation

Banner:
The bright colours on the banners can be easily spotted by the readers; also the colour yellow used as a background behind the “Vouchers inside” can also attract reader’s attention.

Lure (Divorce!):
Even though there is only a small piece of text given, it lures the reader in and also tells them what is going on within the television soap. This piece of text helps promote the TV Soap.
Coverlines:
The Coverlines show the readers what other programs are featured within the television magazine that they have an interest in.

Dominant Image:
The main picture of this magazine shows the reader the most important soap for that week. Also big picture also shows the dominance of the female character, which suggest this particular type of magazine is for the female gender

Masthead:
Tells the audience what the name of the magazine is. The red background used with the white bold font enables the title of the magazine to stand out. This is effective because these colours are more likely to catch the audience’s eye/attention.
Institutional Information:
The date of the magazine is also provided, this shows the readers what week the TV magazine is for/when it finishes.
